While shopping this weekend I came across this oddity in a local book shop.
I have heard of bamboo being used for bike frames before but never saw one in the flesh. This looks interesting.
It’s light(ish) but not super-light at 11.5kgs.
At 1k CHF it’s way out of my budget. I wonder if these will ever turn up second hand?? Never saw one before…
Has anyone ridden a bamboo frame? If so, please let me know, I would love to hear about it.
I think they are beautiful, like a work of art . . . well, most high-end bikes I feel that way. I haven’t ridden one, but I have seen one and picked it up and felt of the frame. It is not for me. It looks too . . . hipster? And for what I could spend on that, I could buy something I’d really like. JMO 🙂

It’s definitely quirky. Like you, I would rather buy something fundamentally good than make a point about sustainability. But maybe they are good? I’ve never met anyone who could say first hand!
I think hipsters would much prefer a vintage Bianchi. Rightly so. 😎

Most definitely, yes! I have considered ordering Calfee’s bamboo build kit: https://calfeedesign.com/calfee-bamboo-diy-kit/
It includes rental (or purchase) of the necessary jigs and tools, and all the tubes, materials and epoxy for bonding the frame tubes. Bamboo is a renewable resource. So, I think it makes for an interesting frame material option.

When you do, please let me know how it rides. I’d love to know.
